West North East South Pass 1♣? Pass 1♥ Pass 1NT Pass 6NT Pass Pass Pass
No, we don’t think much of the bidding either, it was the best way that we could come up with to maneuver the contract into 6NT. This is a rare Wednesday Game double dummy problem, you get to see all four hands as you plan the play for 12 tricks in No Trump after a Spade lead.
Thanks to the obliging Club situation, you can count two Spades, two Hearts, two Diamonds, and five Clubs. That’s 11 tricks, where’s the 12th?
SOLUTION
Ain’t life easy when you can see all four hands? The winning line (which you would never find in normal play) is to cash your seven black suit winners. What will East’s last six cards be? - If East comes down to four Hearts and two Diamonds then you will cash the Diamond winners and throw East in with a Heart … he’ll be obliged to return a Heart and that’s the 12th trick.
-
If East comes down to three Hearts and three Diamonds then you
just give up a Heart and the suit is now good. © BES, Inc All Rights Reserved | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
